The working principle of a range hood is primarily based on aerodynamics and fluid mechanics. Its core components include a fan system, a smoke collection hood, and an exhaust duct.

The fan system is the power source of the range hood. It typically consists of a motor and an impeller. When the motor starts, it drives the impeller to rotate at high speed.

The high-speed rotation of the impeller creates a low-pressure area around it. According to Bernoulli's principle, gas always flows from a high-pressure area to a low-pressure area. At this time, the air in the kitchen (including cooking fumes) is drawn into the range hood.

The design of the smoke collection hood is also crucial. Its shape and size are carefully optimized to effectively collect the rising cooking fumes. Common types of smoke collection hoods include flat-panel, deep-hood, and side-draft types.

Flat-panel fume hoods have a simple appearance, suitable for modern kitchen styles, and capture cooking fumes through their large coverage area. Deep-hood fume hoods have a deeper cavity, which can hold more fumes and prevent them from overflowing. Side-suction fume hoods are close to the side of the stove and can suck up fumes the moment they are generated, reducing their spread in the kitchen.

Regardless of the type of fume hood, their purpose is to guide the fumes towards the fan inlet, improving the fume extraction efficiency of the range hood.
